How to promote our applications: Tips and tricks by platform

Here’s some advice as to how to run the most successful promotion possible. These aren’t the rules – you don’t have to follow our guidance here – but these are our tips to drive the most installs possible from your posts.

ytYouTube

  • Paste tracking link in description box. Use an URL shortener such as bit.ly before you do this
  • Create a promotional video encouraging and instructing channel followers to download the app now. Include a call-to-action in both the video itself and in the description box (‘Download the app now using the link below!’, for example)

fbFacebook

  • Paste tracking link as part of a regular status post. Use an URL shortener such as bit.ly before you do this
  • This post should include a call-to-action telling the user to download the app now in order to maximize the number of installs
  • Only the first 3 lines of a Facebook post are visible on mobile so, in order to maximize the number of installs, you should ensure that the tracking link is in view (or you’re relying on all followers engaging with the post on their phones to click on ‘see more’ before checking out the app…)

igInstagram

  • Paste tracking link in ‘website’ section of bio. Use an URL shortener such as bit.ly before you do this
  • Post a promotional image and supporting written description that encourages and instructs followers to download the app now via the tracking link (and let them know where they can find the tracking link)

twTwitter

  • Include the tracking link in the tweet. Use an URL shortener such as bit.ly before you do this
  • Include a call-to-action telling followers to download the app via the link
  • Include a relevant image to maximize installs
  • Use hashtags to maximize installs
  • Tweet @ anyone in your network with relevant influence in order that they may retweet, amplifying your post (and maximizing installs) in so doing

twiTwitch

  • Paste tracking link in description box. Use an URL shortener such as bit.ly before you do this
  • Create a promotional video encouraging and instructing channel followers to download the app now. Include a call-to-action in both the video itself and in the description box (‘Download the app now using the link below!’, for example)

What counts as an install?

  • Users must be in a valid country. If you’re running an FR-only campaign, you won’t be paid for installs in Yemen, for example.
  • Users must use the required OS: if the campaign is to drive Android installs, you won’t be paid for installs on iOS (albeit most of our promotions cover both operating systems). Should you apply to run the iOS campaign only, your VOLTU Account Manager will automatically approve you for both campaigns (and supply 2 sets of tracking links).
  • A download only becomes an install once the user has opened the app. You are paid for installs
  • No further installs are counted if a campaign is paused. You receive plenty of notice of this
  • Installs that are not in line with the rules/our T&Cs will not be counted

How not to promote: a reminder of the rules

  • You must not incentivize your followers to install the app (i.e. do not offer benefits or rewards such as exclusive content, retweets etc. in return for an install)
  • The promotion must be relevant to the app (i.e. do not ask your followers to display their devotion to you by installing the app but rather flag the appeal of the app itself!)
  • You must not ‘excessively’ install the app yourself either on one device or across several. ‘Excessive’ here is defined as more than 3 installs
